Rob Lantsbury

Rob has spent the majority of his career in housing in London working with both local authorities and housing associations. His career spans 30 years in the social housing world which has included spells in Lewisham, London wide with the GLC and Tower Hamlets and has included a time in senior management for a tenant management cooperative before specializing in resident participation in local authorities and housing associations. This has included the development of new Tenant Management Organisation’s and the monitoring of established TMO’s. It has also included working in community development for a community based stock transfer landlord.

Rob’s last full time appointment was for Poplar HARCA where he was the Resident Empowerment Manager. Rob’s job enabled him to operate at all levels, from dealing with residents involved at the grass roots level and working with residents looking to join the organizations board structures to negotiating with local authorities, DCLG and other statutory and voluntary bodies. Key achievements were the development of a resident majority board, the development of a comprehensive support/training and mentoring package for resident directors, leading a team of officers that secured five positive stock transfer ballots, a completely revised resident empowerment ethos that has been short listed and won for the Housing Corporation’s Gold Award for resident empowerment in 2007.

Since becoming a Director of New Mill Rob has undertaken a number of projects which have included working with the Home Group in setting up their national regional resident forums, in conjunction with others undertook a resident’s survey/tenancy audit for a specialist refugee Housing Association in London, took part in a stock options appraisal for the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea and helped in a developer selection process for the Green Man estate in Ealing. In terms of specialist outreach work Rob has undertaken outreach work on behalf of Havering PCT which included specialist work with older people and how they perceived the Trust was delivering on their health care requirements, a decant programme of a small estate for Providence Row Housing who are a specialist in supporting and housing people with addiction problems. Rob has also led in devising and delivering a resident training programme for Poplar HARCA, devising and delivering a training programme for Crawley Homes residents forum and devising, delivering a diversity training programme for Richmond Housing Partnership and assisting in the selection of a chair person for Circle Anglia’s resident board. Together with Christine Rob has recently worked with residents to develop scrutiny panels with both East Homes and Gateway RSL.

Outside of work recently completed an Open University degree in Social Sciences and spends most of his time either watching or thinking about Tottenham Hotspur FC!
